Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh police yesterday filed a case against Telangana leaders K Chandrasekhara Rao and M Kodandaram for their alleged offensive remarks, an official said.
A case under Indian Penal Code’s section 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) was booked against them at Arandelpeta police station in Guntur.
The case against Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief Chandrasekhara Rao and Telangana Joint Action Committee convenor M. Kodandaram was booked on a complaint by a leader of Samaikhya Andhra Joint Action Committee.
The complainant alleged that the two Telangana leaders made offensive comments at a public meeting in Hyderabad on Monday. Meanwhile, two complaints were also made against the leaders at police stations in Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
Congress legislator and government whip Jayaprakash Reddy lodged a complaint at Gandhi Nagar police station in Hyderabad. A police officer said the complainant alleged that Chandrasekhara Rao used unparliamentary language. He said further action would be taken after taking legal opinion.
Congress leader A Jayaprakash also lodged a complaint against Telangana leaders at Machavaram police station in Vijayawada. He demanded that the police register sedition case against Chandrasekhara Rao and arrest him immediately. IANS
