DOHA: People in Qatar may have to live with the snarling traffic at least for two to three years.
“There is no quick solution to traffic jams but some projects are being implemented that will bear fruit after two to three years,” the Minister of Transport H E Jassim Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti said yesterday.
The projects aims at solving traffic problems permanently, he added.
Separate lanes will be built for public buses. The first project will be implemented along the Salwa Road starting from Ramada on an experimental basis and such projects will be implemented in other areas.
The Minister was addressing a workshop organised by the Traffic Department to evaluate infrastructure development projects.
The public transport system is being upgraded and there is a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of public transport among the younger generation.
Proposals made by participants in the workshop will be taken into consideration to resolve traffic jams, said Brig Mohammed Saad Al Kharji Director of the department.
