Emir to visit Jordan today

Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will pay a one-day official visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan today. During the visit, the Emir will hold talks with King Abdullah II on bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest. QNA 

 

Emir receives phone call from French president


Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received yesterday a telephone call from French President Francois Hollande.  
During the phone call, they reviewed bilateral relations and means of enhancing them. They discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest.
Qatar to participate in health ministers meeting in Peru
Doha: Qatar will  participates in the first meeting of Health Ministers of South American and Arab countries to be held in the Peruvian capital,  Lima,  from April 2 to 4 under the slogan of “universal health care and social determinants.” 
Qatar’s  delegation to will be  headed by  Assistant Secretary-General for Medical Affairs of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) Dr Saleh bin Ali Al Marri.  The meeting will discuss  a number of important topics notably health systems, disease control, prevention and preparedness as well as  response to cases of humanitarian aid.   The meeting aims to contribute to promoting  integration between the  South American and Arab countries  in the health sector  through the implementation of the Plan of Action adopted by the Third Summit of South American  and Arab countries (ASPA), which was held in Lima in October 2012.


PM to hold open session with SEC officials


DOHA: The Prime Minister HE Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani who is also Chairman of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) will tomorrow hold an open session with SEC officials and other stakeholders on education sector in Qatar. This is the first meeting of the Prime Minister with leaders from the education sector after he took over as SEC Chairman.
The meeting will feature an open discussion on several topics — the major challenges facing education and priority areas for the coming five years. All the participants will be allowed to give their opinion on these issues, the SEC said in a statement yesterday.
The evaluation system in Independent schools and performance of the students will also be discussed, along with the status of private schools and their role in education. Issues concerning higher education and the state universities would also come up for discussion.
The Prime Minister will be briefed on the initial findings of an opinion poll conducted by the SEC on its Twitter account seeking feedback from the community on education-related issues.
