Doha: Doha will host the National Unity and Social Coexistence Conference in April with participation of several  distinguished scholars, academics, politicians and members of the international media.
The two-day conference, organised by the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs, will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel from April 2 to 3.
The conference will address the challenges as well as review the significant changes taking place in the Arab world. While providing recommendations aimed at strengthening national unity, the conference also aims to encourage an open, scholarly dialogue on religious and ethnic pluralism and enhanced coexistence; building bridges amongst all groups and communities in the Arab world, the Ministry of Awqaf said in a press statement.
The meet will re-evaluate traditional interpretations and jurisprudence, articulating an urgent need to reject ill-informed unenlightened interpretations and exploitative policies which often spill-over to communal violence and conflict. Scholars will present and discuss nature of coexistence and pluralism in the development and growth of Arab societies, the statement said.
The Arabs have traditionally adopted and developed a variety of means to manage their differences, creating tolerant environments of pluralistic coexistence. This was reflected in their well-developed political, economic and legal systems during that time, securing peace, prosperity, national unity and cohesion, and fostering peaceful coexistence and interactions with neighbouring states.
