DOHA: A GCC citizen has been sentenced to 25 years in jail by a lower criminal court here for causing the death of a person in a physical struggle during a burglary attempt.
The court, sentencing the man to life imprisonment and specifying that the jail term will be 25 years, also asked the convict to pay QR200,000 ($55,000) blood money to the family of the victim.
Local Arabic daily Al Raya reported that the victim was a heart patient and he died following a cardiac arrest after he saw his son fall on the floor after having been stabbed by the convict. The court gave a breakup of the sentence and said 10 years were for the convict hitting the young man, 10 years for causing the death of the elderly person and five years for entering someone’s house at night for burglary. It so happened that when the GCC citizen entered the house of the victim, he and his son got a wind of it and they eventually confronted him while he was standing in a room.
The convict ran to escape but the son and father duo caught hold of him and a fight ensued. The GCC citizen was carrying a knife and he stabbed the son who suffered minor injury. However, the injured man fell on the floor and when his father saw him fall he was shocked and got a cardiac arrest and died, the daily said. The convict succeeded in running away but the daily didn’t say how he was caught by the police.
