Doha: Kerala Women’s Initiative Qatar (KWIQ) in collaboration with Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) conducted its fifth season of ‘Pusthak Mela’ at ICC premises from March 26-28, 2022.
With the aim of ‘Reduce, Reuse & Recycle’, this community service initiative of KWIQ gave many parents an opportunity to donate used academic textbooks of all CBSE board schools in Qatar from Grade 4 onwards along with storybooks, novels, and guides and in exchange get used academic books for the new academic year for free.
“At the beginning of this year, we had started receiving a lot of inquiries on whether KWIQ will be conducting the Pusthak Mela event as some parents were eagerly looking forward to it. This year, we have had an overwhelming footfall of nearly 2,000 visitors during the mela. Parents who collected used books for their children expressed their gratitude and highlighted that the volunteers present at the venue left no stone unturned to help them find the books they need” said Zareena Ahad, KWIQ President.
The event was inaugurated with Dr Sona Soman, Second Secretary from the Embassy Of India handing over a set of Grade 5 books to a parent. Manju Manoj, a well-known emcee among the Indian community, was honoured with a memento by ICC President P N Baburajan. The event volunteers were also felicitated during the event. The Managing committee members of other APEX Bodies were also present during the inaugural function of the event.
