DOHA: Qatar Foundation’s Academic Bridge Program (ABP) and Birmingham City University (BCU) have recently entered into a partnership as an increasing number of Qatari students seek opportunities to study in the UK.
Last year, about 40 percent of ABP graduates went on to study at UK universities.
The ABP and BCU signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which paves the way for ABP students who successfully complete the ABP and meet specified criteria to progress directly to the first year of study at BCU.
In particular, the agreement provides well-qualified ABP graduates streamlined entry into first year study of Digital Media Technology, Film Production Technology, Construction Management, and Mechanical Engineering.
Dr Mark Newmark, Assistant Director for Academic Affairs at the ABP, said, “The agreement with BCU is of particular benefit to ABP graduates as it covers areas of great interest to a number of our students and in which BCU is strong. The opportunities for ABP graduates to study Digital media Technology or Film Production Technology at BCU is exciting as the Doha Film Institute (DFI) has raised the interest in film and media studies. Similarly, the booming construction industry in Qatar means that students who specialise in construction management will have a lot of opportunities.
Birmingham City University is undergoing tremendous expansion and has been very active in recruiting — and retaining — students from abroad. The university has extensive experience with foreign students not only on its home campus, but also with its strategic partners across the world. Gabriel Ceballos, Regional Manager at Birmingham City University’s International Office said that Qatar is a country with enormous potential for partnerships across different areas.
