DOHA: The Advisory Council has struck down a proposal by a member not to allow mediapersons to cover its deliberations and instead to issue press statements. The Chairman of the Advisory Council said, while rejecting the request of a member not to let mediapersons in: “The media is free in Qatar. We have no business reining them in”. A member while making a request to prevent entry of media persons to cover its deliberations said they don’t report accurately and even do not give proper names of members. They have no idea of the issues being debated.
Mohamed Mubarak Al Khulaifi, chairman of the Advisory Council, said: “The media is free in our country. If they are making some errors it is their responsibility to correct them. We can’t obstruct their role”. The Peninsula
