DOHA: Jassim Saif Al Sulaiti, Chairman and Managing Director of Mowasalat, has taken over as Vice President of UITP (International Association of Public Transport) and Chairman of UITP Mena region.
Al Sulaiti assumed office during the 60th UITP World Congress which began in Geneva on May 26. Mowasalat was nominated for this position by the UITP executive board during its general assembly held in Sohar, Oman last February. The title is in recognition of several initiatives launched by Mowasalat including the CNG-fuelled buses, LNG taxis and buses, taxi franchise programme and the proposed vehicle assembly plant in Oman.
Mowasalat also won the UITP Grow with Public Transport International Award 2013 and was recognised internationally as the most outstanding public transport entity which has implemented innovative solutions that contribute to more and better public transport, thereby supporting the growth of public transport worldwide, the company said yesterday. Mowasalat was named winner during the award ceremony of the UITP World Congress and Exhibition in Geneva.
