Traffic Dept gets new HQ

The Minister of State for Interior Affairs H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurating the new headquarters of the Traffic Department yesterday. Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Staff Maj Gen Hamad bin Ali Al Atiyya, Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning H E Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani, Director General of Public Security H E Staff Maj Gen Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi and Commander of Emiri Guards H E Staff Maj Gen Huzaa bin Khalil Al Shahwani were present.

DOHA: All services of the Traffic Department have been integrated and could now be availed at its new headquarters opened for the public yesterday. 

Visitors to the new Traffic Department headquarters in Madina Khalifa South could have their required services fulfilled without going from one section to another.  

The three-storey building was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Interior Affairs H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning H E Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani, Director General of Public Security Major Gen Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi and other officials. 

“The new building of the Traffic Department comes in the framework of implementing the Ministry of Interior’s strategy to reconstruct and revamp facilities to make it easier for the public,” said Minister Sheikh Abudul Rahman. 

“We do not look at the development of buildings only, but we look at many other criteria for  providing the best services to the public. 

“Development of buildings is part of the MoI strategy and more new buildings will be opened, including a security printing press to be opened next week,” he added. 

Officials toured the building which is equipped with advanced technology and facilities to enhance services for the public. 

“All services provided at the Traffic Department are integrated and well-coordinated. Visitors do not need to go from one building to another,” said Director of Logistics Department at the Ministry of Interior Brig Abdullah Saad Al Kharji.

He was speaking at a press conference at the new headquarters. 

“Staff working at 106 counters are trained to provide all types of services at the department except for investigations.  

“We have staff who can speak Arabic, English, Hindi and Urdu for the convenience of the public who speak different languages,” he added.     

The new Traffic Department located a few metres away from its old building will be open from 6am to 7pm. 

However, the number plate workshop is still located at the old building and is open for 19 hours — from 6am to 1am. 

The building within a 74,000sqm space was built within two years at a cost of QR317m. It has space for 1,200 cars spread over an underground parking and external parking. Over 800 parking slots have been reserved for visitors.
