Sikh devotees pay their respects at the the Golden Temple in Amritsar yesterday on the 174th death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Singh was also known as ‘Sher-e-Punjab’ or Lion of Punjab and is remembered for uniting Punjab as a strong nation and his possession of the Koh-i-noor diamond. Born in Gujranwala in 1780, he was the ruler of the Pakistani Punjab province and died in 1839.
