Bandar Seri Begawan: The largest bank in Brunei, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), has advised customers and the public to be wary of an increase in short message service (SMS) phishing scams falsely claiming to be from BIBD, the bank said in a press release on Tuesday.
SMS phishing involves fraudsters sending deceptive text messages to trick recipients into revealing their sensitive personal or banking information.
The bank said that these messages may appear to be official communications from the BIBD with the intention to steal confidential information such as passwords, account numbers, or one-time passwords from the recipients.
The BIBD reminded the public that it will never ask for sensitive information via unsolicited SMS, phone calls, or other unverified communication channels.
