Doha: The State of Qatar welcomed the Republic of Ireland's enactment of a law banning the import of goods from Israeli settlements, describing it an important step that supports efforts to deter the occupation's settlement policies, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2334, and a blatant attack on the rights of the Palestinian people.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar's hope that more countries will take similar steps in this regard. It also stressed the need for the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities to compel Israel to cease its settlement policy in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Ministry reiterated Qatar's firm and unwavering position in support of the Palestinian cause and the steadfastness of the brotherly Palestinian people, based on international law and the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
