Islamabad: Police backed by commandos launched a search operation and arrested over 70 suspects and recovered weapons in Afghan camps near Sabzi Mandi yesterday. Sources said 400 police and commandos conducted operation in Sector I-11 and recovered a huge cache of Kalashnikovs, submachine guns, pistols, fake number plates of vehicles and two stolen motorbikes. The search followed a tip-off on two large Afghan localities.
Six die as bus slams into car
Islamabad: At least six people were killed when a passenger bus slammed into a car in eastern Pakistan yesterday, Geo News reported. It said the bus was on way from Lahore to Gujarat and the accident occurred due to the bus driver’s recklessness. Police said they were hunting for the driver who fled the scene.
14 rebels killed in Afghanistan
Kabul: At least 14 Taliban militants were killed during joint operations by Afghan and coalition security forces. The Interior Ministry said in a statement that operations were conducted by Afghan police, army and intelligence as well as coalition forces in Faryab, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Paktiya and Paktika provinces in the past the past during the past 24 hours. At least three militants were injured and 12 were arrested. Forces also seized weapons, ammunition and explosives. The Taliban have not commented on the operations yet.
Quake victims taken to Karachi
Islamabad: Sixty-four people, who received multiple injuries in the devastating earthquake in Baluchistan’s Awaran district on Tuesday, have been shifted to Karachi hospitals, Geo News reported yesterday. They were taken in buses and ambulances to the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Complex. The victims include men, women and children and officials said they went to Karachi for better treatment as Awaran district lacks medical facilities. Agencies
