Doha: As part of Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture the BBC Symphony Orchestra will perform two concerts introducing Qatar to the very best of British classical music at the Katara Opera House today and tomorrow.

This is the first time the orchestra has been visiting the country in its 83 years of history. The 90 strong London based BBC Symphony Orchestra will perform the very best of British classical music by three composers closely associated with the orchestra’s history. Conducted by Sir Andrew Davis, the repertoire will include Edward Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance #1, Benjamin Britten’s Four Sea Interludes and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No 2. All three composers reflect the British landscape they knew well in their musical masterpieces.

With the BBC Symphony Orchestra having played a central role at the heart of British musical life since its inception in 1930, these British composers have always remained close to the orchestra’s identity.

Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture  is coordinated by the British Council and the Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) with the support of Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs and Katara Cultural Village along with Platinum Sponsors Qatargas, Qatar Shell and Vodafone Qatar.
