DOHA: Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) organised a workshop ‘Exhibitions in Qatar: Achieving Global Standards’ as part of efforts to increase the number of exhibitions approved by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (GAEI) and share common goals and objectives with exhibition organisers here.
The workshop at Qatar National Convention Centre on October 21 was attended by 50 representatives from the public and private sectors in the MICE - Exhibitions industry and event organisers.
“At QTA, we want every step we take and every effort we make to have a positive and lasting impact on the MICE sector, leading to a successful and sustainable tourism industry presenting the development of the sector in Qatar. That is why we organise such workshops, which allow exchange of views and discussions with decision-makers and event organisers to serve and develop the MICE industry based on international standards,” said Hamad Al Abdan, Director of Exhibitions, QTA.
He said QTA is striving to develop the tourism sector in light of its increasing importance in the national economy.
He said the growing tourism sector has expanded activities of the Qatari economy.
“This was evident in the annual tourism results, which showed increases in the number of tourists and tourism revenues, contributing to the increase in the GDP,” he said.
The workshop discussed ways to create and develop world-class exhibitions and meet the standards of the GAEI. It also discussed health and safety standards for exhibitions, obligations of organisers in this regard, exhibition auditing processes and benefits, as well as topics related to event organisation.
