DOHA: A brace from Wagner Ribeiro helped Eljaish go six points clear at the top of Qatar Stars League (QSL) after a 2-1 victory over Al Gharafa, yesterday.
The striker found the net in the 45th and 62nd minute as the home side went 2-0 up.
Al Gharafa pulled one back through Miku (75), but Zico’s side pressed on for the equaliser but could not find the net again, as they remain in fifth spot with 14 points.
In other matches yesterday, Al Ahli, who stunned two-time champions Lekhwiya 1-0 last week, were held to a 2-2 draw by Al Khor.
Also playing yesterday, Umm Salal and Al Kharaitiyat played out a goalless 0-0 draw.
In a match that had few first-half opportunities for both teams, Eljaish seized the initiative when Wagner gave the QSL leaders a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute.
The striker doubled his goal tally when he converted a penalty just after the half-hour mark.
Al Gharafa, who had crushed Umm Salal 6-2 last week, got the third goal of the match through summer signing Miku in the 75th minute.
Zico’s Al Gharafa pushed on for the equaliser but missed opportunities and brave defending by Eljaish, saw the league leaders claim all three points and register their seventh victory of the campaign this season.
