Qatar’s Lekhwiya, El Jaish begin campaign with wins

Action from the 17th Asian Handball Clubs’ League Championship Group A match between Qatar’s El Jaish  and Saudi Arabia’s Al Khalij at the newly-built Ali bin Hamad Al-Atiyah Arena Al Sadd in Doha yesterday. El Jaish won 29-24.

Doha: Qatar’s El Jaish and Lekhwiya began their campaign in the 17th Asian Handball Clubs’ League Championship on a winning note yesterday.
Defending champions El Jaish  defeated Saudi Arabia’s Al Khalij 29-24 in a Group B match at the newly-built Ali bin Hamad Al-Atiyah Arena Al Sadd.
There was more success for the  local clubs as Lekhwiya defeated Al-Salt Club of Jordan 26-22 in the Group A match on the opening day.
Al Gharafa is the third Qatari club competing in the continental championship which is contested by the top ten professional clubs.
Earlier in the first match,  Iranian club Manyazom Janob defeated Oman’s Ahli Sidab 33-18 and Al Qurain Sporting Club from Kuwait defeated Iranian team Samenalhojaj 32:28 in a Group A game.
Today, there are four matches starting from 1pm. All the three local clubs will be  seen in action today.The Peninsula
