New Delhi: The BJP yesterday questioned the “hush-hush manner” in which the 23-year-old gang raped woman was cremated early in the morning, within hours of her body being flown in from Singapore. “We understand the right of privacy, the right of privacy has to be respected, but the hush-hush manner raises curious questions too,” said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The BJP leader’s comments came after the gang raped woman’s body was flown in at around 3.30 am to Delhi from Singapore in a chartered Air India flight. The cremation took place at 7.25 am.
Minister of State for Home R P N Singh, who was present at the crematorium in southwest Delhi, denied any secrecy in the ceremony. He said the cremation was held quietly “as we wanted to respect the privacy of the family”. “I was there as representative of the government,” Singh said. The BJP has also demanded a special session of parliament to discuss rising crimes against women.
Victim’s mother admitted to hospital
New Delhi: The distraught mother of the young trainee physiotherapist, who was brutally gang-raped in the capital early this month, collapsed and was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after her daughter’s body was taken away for cremation.
“As soon as the body was taken away for cremation, she collapsed,” Vimla, a neighbour of the family, said.
Since last evening, a large number of people, mostly neighbours, had assembled outside the family’s house in southwest Delhi’s Mahavir Enclave to condole the woman’s death.IANS
