Madadgaar launches documentary on reproductive rights

KARACHI - Reproductive rights are in fact human rights and all stakeholders of society should play their due role in recognition and respects of these rights, said noted human rights lawyer Zia Ahmed Awan here Monday.

Addressing at a ceremony of launching of a Madadgaar documentary, he said the Madadgaar helpline besides raising voice against the exploitation of rights of women and children is also working on the issues of reproductive rights in Pakistan.

Sindh Minister for Culture Sharmila Faruqi said it parents and teachers can play an important role about raising the awareness about the reproductive rights. She said in most families they do not talk about the reproductive health issues with grown up children. She said the Sindh assembly has passed a child marriages restrain bill which would be proved beneficial for younger population.

Dr Sikandar Sohani of Aahung, Rashid Khan of Visionary Foundation and Shafaq Ahmed of the Institute of Clinical Psychology, Karachi University also spoke.
