Qatar Stars League (QSL) side  Al Shahaniyah on Wednesday unveiled Igor Stimac of Croatia as their new coach.
Stimac will head the team for the remaining part of the QSL season, club officials said.
The Croatian replaces Portuguese Jose Fernando who was relieved of his duties as coach following a 10-0 hammering at the hands of Lekhwiya in a round 13 clash last week.
Al Shahaniyah football chief Manahi Al Shammari was present at the unveiling ceremony. In a statement, Al Shammari said, "We welcome Mr Igor Stimac to Al Shahaniyah. We will rely on him to guide our team in the last four months of the season."
"We wish him success in the coming period," the statement added.
Stimach, 49, was a Croatian international and featured in the 1998 FIFA World Cup held in France. He also played for EPL side West Ham in England. As a coach, Stimac was in charge of the Croatian national team from 2012 to 2013. In club football, he has had brief spells in charge of Hajduk Split, Cibalia, NK Zagreb and Zadar.
