DOHA: Law-enforcement officials have arrested an Asian allegedly involved in a series of car break-ins to steal cash.
The arrested man, according to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Interior yesterday, used a novel modus operandi to commit the alleged crimes.
He would keep an eye on people withdrawing cash from ATMs or bank branches and follow them until they left their cars parked.
He would then break the window glass of the car and steal the cash. The police recovered QR150,000 from the suspect who was caught in the act by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ministry of Interior.
Sleuths acted after several complaints from citizens and expatriates about the car break-ins. The CID formed a specialised team to arrest the culprit who was trailed before being caught while trying to break into a car.
During questioning, the man confessed to the crime. He has been transferred to the Capital Security Department for completing legal formalities, the ministry’s press statement said.
