Doha: Sidra Medical and Research Center has announced that its Chief Nursing Officer, Dr Mary Boyd (pictured), has been awarded fellowship by the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).
The fellowship follows an examination, including the submission of a portfolio of evidence and viva and a review of her contributions to nursing in three key areas: Teaching, research and practice.
These areas mirror the three pillars of excellence in patient care, biomedical research and medical education on which Sidra was founded.
Dr Boyd also lectures students of the Bachelor of Nursing programme at University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ).
“Sidra and RCSI share a commitment to excellence in clinical practice, recognise the power of education and training and are working together to improve health and healthcare for people everywhere,” said Dr Boyd.
Before joining Sidra, she held senior leadership positions in healthcare in Ireland and was a major contributor to Irish healthcare reform.
Sidra’s Member of the Office of the CEO and Executive Vice Chief Medical Officer, Dr Abdulla Al Kaabi, said,  “Sidra has established the pursuit of education as one of its main pillars. We commend Dr Boyd’s commitment to life-long learning and knowledge sharing at Sidra and UCQ.”
Professor Marie Carney, Dean, Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, RCSI, said. “Dr Boyd’s dedication to the progress of nursing as a profession in Ireland and focus on education and empowerment of our nurses and midwives has had a major impact on the evolution of the discipline.
“I am confident that her passion and experience will help build a strong foundation for nurses at Sidra and in  Qatar.”
