UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres
New York: The United Nations on Saturday welcomed the agreement signed between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
In a statement, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed appreciation to all those who worked to support the agreement, appealing to all parties to act swiftly to ensure its implementation, especially regarding the peaceful integration of northeast Syria, the rights of Syrian citizens, the safe, dignified, and voluntary return of the displaced, and to work together to rebuild the country.
Guterres urged all parties to fully uphold their commitments, to prioritize stabilization in Syria and the wider region, and to ensure that civilians are protected and able to live safely, in dignity, and free from fear.
On Friday, the Syrian government announced that it had agreed with the SDF to a ceasefire within a comprehensive accord, including an understanding on a phased integration process for military and administrative personnel between the two sides.
