DOHA: A draft law approved by the Advisory Council yesterday seeks to give more autonomy to Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee (NHRC).
The draft also seeks to cancel the representation of the Supreme Council of Family Affairs on the NHRC and replace it with the Ministry of Justice. Now, a representative each from the interior ministry, labor and social affairs ministry, foreign affairs ministry and justice ministry will be on the board of the NHRC.
No officials of the NHRC, including board members, would be liable to be taken to court for making statements or announcements within their specialisation and NHRC premises couldn’t be raided by law-enforcement officials without the presence of a public prosecutor, QNA reported.
