DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning seized 7,638 abandoned vehicles parked along roadsides and other public places over the last one year. The crackdown was launched in June last year by the Automobile Department in collaboration with the Cleaning Department at the Ministry.

“This drive was part of a crackdown against abandoned vehicles that pose a serious threat to the health of the people and also affect the environment,” Safar Mobarak Al Shafi, head of Automobile Department at the Ministry, said.

“Our focus now would be on the commercial streets, some important places and markets because many abandoned vehicles are also found in these areas,” he added.  Al Shafi said that in a short period, huge numbers vehicles had been taken off the roads and the credit for it went to the Lakhwiya, Traffic Department and the municipalities.
