MOSCOW: The Russian navy launched cruise missiles from the eastern Mediterranean against IS targets in the Syrian city of Palmyra, Russia's Defense Ministry said Wednesday.
Four Kalibr cruise missiles launched from the Admiral Essen frigate and the Krasnodar submarine "hit all targets" in the historic city, a statement said, without giving any information on the date of strikes.
The U.S., Turkish and Israeli armies were informed in advance, the statement added.
The sea-based Kalibr cruise missiles are capable of delivering high-precision strikes at a distance of 1,500 kilometers (932 miles) on sea and land targets, according to the Ministry's website.
