Curtain to fall on Katara fashion shows

DOHA: A three-day fashion show featuring creations by Qatari designers inspired by Arabic calligraphy will conclude tonight at Katara, Building 3.

During the fashion shows, models sashay on the catwalk wearing stunning abayas with Arabic calligraphy as key element. The event comprises five fashion shows, which are a part of the ongoing Katara Ramadan festival under the theme ‘a touch of light illuminating the village of authenticity’.

The fashion shows reflect the versatility of Qatari designers in using various forms and types of calligraphy styles that highlight the beauty and attractiveness of this ancient Islamic art fused into modern attire.

Participating women designers appreciated the initiative of Katara and stressed launching similar events shows the keenness of Qatar to motivate talented people at different fields to showcase their expertise. 

The designers said their mission is focused on preserving the heritage and identity of Qatari clothing styles. They shed light on the fact that every design is distinguished for its own aesthetic aspect that meet the taste of all people in different age groups. 

Meanwhile, screenings of documentary films on Arabic calligraphy also concludes tonight at the Katara Dram Theatre. The screenings are organised in collaboration with Al Jazeera Documentary Channel.  

The films being screened include Islamic Art Decoration, Collecting and Writing the Quran, Abro & Colours Swim, Karim Jaafar, and Haji Noor Deen Fingerprints.  The Peninsula
