DOHA: After the success of the recent West End Park Ramadan Tournament, officials of West End Park Stadium on Tuesday launched an Eid cricket tournament to help celebrate Eid Al Fitr and promote cricket during the holiday season.
West End Park Stadium is staging a seven-over format tournament to create a new fun experience for players. It will be an eight-a side tournament where seven players can bowl — each player is entitled to one over.
Registered teams include: Al Hanzab CC, Choudhary CC A Side, Choudhary CC B Side, United Challengers CC and Stallions/Sarandeep CC. The teams will compete in a round robin format.
The two teams with the highest points will qualify for the final where prize money is up for grabs.
The organisers include Mr Mana Ibrahim Al Mana, Chairman of West End Park, Mr Michael Scallon, Head of Sport at West End Park and Mr Gul Khan Jadoon, Tournament Director.
Mr Al Mana said: “I understand that many cricket players are travelling for Eid but I still wanted to develop a short cricket concept to excite local fans spending their holidays in Doha. I hope the tournament is well received and may the best team win.
“The Eid Tournament is a small part of an exciting calendar of local and international cricket events expected to be held at West End Park this year, there will be (more) announcements shortly, once plans are confirmed”.
Games will take place on July 30 and 31st from 6pm and entry is free for the public.
