DOHA: Professional skills and personalities of individual employees of an organisation have strong correlation which brings significant differences in the efficiency and performance of an entity, said a renowned industry expert while addressing a workshop in Qatar.
The Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Centre), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank (QDB) and Silatech recently hosted the workshop on ‘Personality & Individual Differences and impact on Professional skills’.
The day-long workshop evoked good response from people from all walks of life. It was conducted by eminent international accredited financial analyst and soft skills expert trainer Dr. Abdel Rahim Al Hour.
The workshop, held on July 27, at St Regis Hotel, focused on how personality determinants affect professional skills.
Speaking at the event Dr. Al Hour explained that there exists a strong connection between personality and professional skills which affects performance and bring about goal-oriented behaviour, and behavioral reactions. According to him, Individuals bring a number of differences to work, such as unique personalities, values, emotions, and moods. When new employees enter organisations, their stable or transient characteristics affect how they behave and perform.
Al Hour has been an economic consultant to a variety of corporations, utilities, and government agencies in the finance industry and as a frequent economic analyst he has given more than 3,000 live interviews to a number of Arabic Satellite TV channels. Furthermore, as an acclaimed freelance writer, he has been a guest lecturer on a wide range of events and topics.
In his present role as General Manager of Hi Tech Training Centre, Al Hour is responsible for the overall performance and management of the center which include but not limited to: quality assurance, revenue goals, enrollment, staff management, marketing and advertising, programme development, and curriculum, and developing operating policies and procedures.
Reem Al Sowaidi, General Manager of Bedaya Centre, said: “This workshop was aimed at welcoming all those interested in the subject of organisational behavior and it’s co-relation to professional skills. Moreover, companies hire people with the expectation that individuals come with certain skills, abilities, personalities, and values. Therefore, it is important to understand individual characteristics that matter for employee behaviors at work.”
