Insulting GCC flag a punishable crime

Doha: The Cabinet approved yesterday a draft law amending some provisions of the Penal Code issued by Law No. (11) of 2004.

Following a resolution by the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the draft law was prepared, stipulating punishment for publicly insulting the GCC flag by damaging or lowering it or any other act that expresses hatred and contempt.

The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani chaired the weekly session at the Emiri Diwan.

After the meeting, the Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud said the Cabinet also endorsed the holding of the Statistics and Development Forum in Qatar on December 12 under the auspices of the Premier as part of National Day of Statistics celebrations.

The Cabinet then approved a draft agreement on cooperation and exchange of news between Qatar and Romania.

It also endorsed a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in organising exhibitions between Qatar and Egypt.

The meeting reviewed a draft law amending some provisions of the telecommunications law issued by the decree law No. 34 of 2006 and a draft decision of the General Manager of Qatar New Agency setting charges for commercial advertisements on QNA’s offers on its websites and took the appropriate decisions.
