DOHA: The Father of a Qatar University (QU) student died in road accident occurred in its the campus on Wednesday.
The accident was caused by a female faculty member at the university car park, according a university source.
The university confirmed the incident on its Twitter and facebook accounts by posting a letter in English and Arabic by QU president professor Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad yesterday.
In the letter Professor Al Misnad said: “I have long dreaded that the day would come when I would have to write this email. It is with great sadness that I inform you of a tragic road accident that resulted in the death of a parent on our campus yesterday (Wednesday).
“As we pray for the deceased, wishing his family patience and strength, we must also be reminded that it is the duty of each and every one of us to do what they can to keep our campus a safe environment for everyone. I extend my thanks to the Medical Clinic and our security personnel, the ambulance staff and the police for their prompt response and professionalism.”
Meanwhile, QU community and students have expressed their condolences on social media to the victim’s family and also called for safe driving, especially within the university premises.
“Crazy drivers, they take people’s lives for granted,” said one commentator.
Another said, “The problem is everyone is driving like they drive in a normal road forgetting that campus street has more pedestrian movement. Also it’s the university to blame because it’s collages away from each other and separated by streets.”
The QU on its internal roads has commonly limited speed to 40 km/hr and only on the main roads within the premises the speed limit is 60km/hr.
