The Department of Arabic Language at Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) hosted, yesterday, a symposium under the title ‘Post- Blockade, Where are the Arab values going?’.
The lecture was delivered by Dr Mohammed Al Shankiti, Associate Professor of History of Religions at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) College of Islamic Studies. The aim of the lecture was to raise awareness among QU students about the Arab values and to reinforce their ethical principles and sense of patriotism as well as their positive position towards the Qatar’s blockade crisis.
Attending the event were Dr Mariam Al Naimi, Head of CAS Arabic Language Department and a large number of faculty and students.
Dr Mohammed Al Shankiti highlighted the values of courage, generosity and neighbourliness, and the rejection of oppression and treason in Islam. He noted that Islam established and expanded these values to acquire a universal human significance. He discussed the Gulf crisis in light of the Arabic values and the historical glories of the Arabian Peninsula.
Dr Mariam Al Naimi said: “The Department of Arabic Language at Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences is keen to raise student awareness on national issues through dialogue. The department recently included the pride and dignity speeches of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in QU core curriculum program. The department also launched a creative campaign to attract student initiatives inspired by the impact of the blockade imposed on Qatar.”
