Doha: As part of ongoing Qatar-India Year of Culture - 2019, the Embassy of India, in partnership with North Indian Association, a prominent community organisation in Qatar, will be holding a gala cultural event ‘Deepotsava 2019’ at 7pm today at Hotel InterContinental Doha.

The cultural event will feature several troupes visiting from India including Incredible Mallakhamb, a traditional Indian sport in which a gymnast performs feats and strikes poses in concert with a vertical wooden pole or rope. Mallakhamb is derived from the terms ‘malla’ which denotes a wrestler and ‘khamba’ which means a pole.

Illuminati — a group of artists who create an alternative visual reality through the amalgamation of dance and technology will also perform. This visiting troupe, Kartikeya & group, won accolades for their performance in the reality TV show.

Another dance form will be ‘Flamenco-Kathak’ which is a creative blend of two dance disciplines in their pure and collaborative form. Flamenco & Kathak seamlessly overlap, creating rhythmic patterns & nuances unique and new to the two dance forms. When the purity and essence of the two cultures come together in unison, the energy is just enthralling.
