DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has issued a warning to boat owners to remove their boats anchored in the old port in Doha with immediate effect.

The owners have been asked to take their boats out of the area in three days beginning 6.30am yesterday, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday.

The decision has irked many boat owners, who complain that the Ministry has issued the warning without providing any alternatives.

“The port is very narrow and we have no other place to anchor our boats. It is not practical to shift the boats on a daily basis,” a Qatari fishing boat owner was quoted as saying by the daily.

Some boat owners called for monitoring the sale of fish in the area saying some vendors are selling old fish, mixing it with the new ones.
