Sheikha Moza named honorary president of QU Alumni Association

DOHA: The Alumni Association at Qatar University (QU) has announced H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser as the Honorary President of the Association, which was established recently in line with QU’s strategy to maintain an open line of communication with graduates as successful alumni. 

The Alumni Association recently held its first meeting of the board of directors in the presence of QU President Prof Sheikha Abdullah Al Misnad, the Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr Saif Ali Al Hajari and Board members. 

Attendees selected 24 distinguished and high-profile graduates as association members to participate in achieving the Association’s goals and objectives. 

The members are well known social figures who have contributed significantly to the university or to the community and to society’s development and improvement. Seven famous female leaders from the fields of education, communication and community service were nominated to be part of the representative board. 

All QU alumni as members will engage in a wide range of activities to build a solid social network of graduates with a shared loyalty and affinity to their alma mater. 

Such activities will enhance collaboration with the university and keep graduates connected to each other and to QU through information, events and special projects. In her remarks, QU President Prof Sheikha Al Misnad outlined the Association’s role, plans and objectives summarised in nurturing and sustaining relations with the University’s alumni. 

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr Al Hajari, said: “This initiative will raise the visibility of the institution by bridging the relationships between QU and its alumni. No doubt, the association’s endeavours will be reflected positively on the overall local community.” Dr Al Hajari expressed his honour to be a graduate of QU and appreciated the university’s efforts to maintain its relationships with the graduates. 

During the meeting, members discussed their views on relevant issues such as Association agenda, budget and annual meetings, events and activities. 

QU Alumni Association includes national figures from various institutions and sectors in Qatar who were selected to join 16 chapters in the Association.
