DOHA: A criminal court has acquitted an Asian who was accused of submitting a forged marriage certificate and forging the seal of Qatar’s foreign ministry.
It so happened that the wife of the accused filed a police complaint against her father and step-mother that they were mistreating her.
The father was called over by police and there he discovered to his surprise that her daughter had already got married. He was shown the marriage certificate issued in India and he said it was forged.
The certificate was endorsed by the Qatari consulate in Mumbai.
The seal used on the certificate was claimed to be fake.
The matter went to the court here and the accused told the judges that he had got married through Skype as his wife was here while he was in India at the time.
The accused told the court that his wife’s father had agreed to give her in marriage to him but was demanding huge cash and gold.
He said he refused to part with cash and gold so the father turned down his request to marry his daughter.
The accused said the certificate issued in India was endorsed by a primary court in Qatar and was genuine, local Arabic daily Al Watan reported yesterday. The Peninsula
