Doha: Qatar has taken the second place in the 10th King Mohammed VI International Award for Recitation, Memorisation and Interpretation of the Holy Quran, in Morocco.
Qatari Youssuf Ahmed Youssuf Asheer, from the Holy Quran, Sciences and Islamic Dawa’a and Guidance Department, bagged the second place in the event in which 50 contestants from 37 Arab and Muslim countries took part, said the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in a statement.
He said the highest ranks achieved by Qatari youth in such international competitions reflect Qatar’s interest in memorisation of the Holy Quran.
He pointed to his early readiness for the contest, which contributed to his achievement despite difficulties, including memorisation and interpretation of the Holy Quran, among others.
He highlighted the role of such competitions in the acquisition of knowledge and experience and strengthening bonds of brotherhood among participants.
