Schools resume in-person classes

In-person classes resume today with clear planning and solid execution by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The resumption brings nearly 417,000 students back to classrooms, with groundwork that reflects a focus on readiness rather than haste. School facilities were prepared in advance through the work of the General Services Department.

Preventive maintenance was completed and all key systems were checked ensuring schools could function without disruption.

Safety preparation has been handled with clarity as the General Directorate of Civil Defence conducted workshops over four days, training about 1,200 school leaders and staff. These sessions focused on clear procedures such as evacuation and shelter plans linked to the national warning system. The approach is direct and action-focused, giving schools the ability to respond effectively if needed.

Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department Maryam Abdullah Al Mohannadi pointed to coordination across ministry sectors and with national authorities as a key factor behind the reopening. This level of coordination has helped build confidence among parents, students and staff while reflecting wider alignment with national efforts to restore normal routines.

Professional readiness has also been strengthened as the Irtiqa 3 training forum, an initiative designed to enhance leadership skills, operational organisation and psychological resilience among educators, brought together 9,686 teachers, school leaders and administrators. Its focus supports a smoother transition back to daily school life and demonstrates that the ministry is not only reopening schools but also reinforcing how they operate.

Student wellbeing has not been overlooked with the Schools and Student Affairs Department meeting with specialists to plan how students will be received and supported. This includes attention to mental wellbeing and creating a positive learning environment as students return after recent disruptions. Private schools and kindergartens were also included in the preparation process with authorities ensuring compliance with safety requirements, stability of teaching staff and continuity in learning. Clear guidelines were shared so schools and school buses can respond flexibly while maintaining standards.

Since last Tuesday, nationwide activity has returned to normal levels. Government ministries and public institutions resumed office work while the Qatar Central Bank confirmed the return of financial institutions. Hamad Medical Corporation restored full healthcare services and the Supreme Judiciary Council reopened court service halls. This wider restart strengthens the environment in which schools now operate. The reopening of schools reflects careful planning across infrastructure, safety, training and student support. The focus now shifts to maintaining this momentum and ensuring that classrooms remain stable, structured and ready for learning every day.
