Some may view the title as flattery or sycophancy. However, in Qatar we have no need for such customs. Our wise leadership welcomes diverse opinions and is known for its openness, engaging with public sentiment and discussions within Qatari society. The leadership belongs to the people and remains close to them.

I will not dwell on this point, especially since a few discordant voices have repeatedly attempted to paint a distorted picture of the reality in our country, castle of the oppressed. Their efforts are inconsequential. This article focuses on the recent visit of US President Donald Trump to Qatar—a two-day visit filled with meetings and important activities.

I mention this visit because it underscores the significance that the US administration places on Qatar, its positions on the international stage, and the remarkable achievements it continues to register in various domains. This article is objective and far from what some malicious minds might wrongly assume or wishes to believe about my country’s standing and reputation.

The visit of the president of the most powerful military and economic nation in the world to Qatar is a clear testament to the rapid and substantial progress we have made globally—in peace building, human rights, humanitarian aid, conflict resolution, and more.

President Trump expressed deep appreciation for Doha’s role in addressing complex issues and its success in defusing numerous crises. Qatar’s impartiality, credibility, and strong diplomatic relationships have enabled it to mediate effectively. A prime example is Qatar’s mediation between the United States and the Taliban, during which it hosted critical peace talks that led to the 2020 agreement between the two sides.

President Trump’s visit was a resounding success by all measures. It was conducted in an atmosphere of transparency and candor. His Highness the Amir raised key issues concerning Qatar and matters of global concern—especially our foremost cause, occupied Palestine, and the devastation, death, and displacement in resilient Gaza. He also addressed the situation in Syria and the importance of supporting its people and future leadership, as well as the Iranian nuclear file and the need for a peaceful resolution, along with other shared concerns across the region and the world.

President Trump spoke frankly about Qatar, its leadership, and its accomplishments—both domestic and international. He clearly stated that Qatar takes pride in its achievements, made possible by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the country. He described His Highness as a remarkable man and a great leader.

Some may interpret the visit as being primarily linked to security cooperation and Al Udeid Air Base, a key strategic hub for US military operations in the region. The base is indeed vital to global counterterrorism efforts and regional security. However, the US-Qatar relationship goes far deeper, encompassing economic, commercial, political, scientific, cultural, and diplomatic dimensions.

Qatar is a key player in many international issues and has proven that its diplomacy is capable of resolving major crises through peaceful means. As a result, our country is recognized globally as a trusted and respected mediator.

Qatar acts in accordance with the policy enshrined in its constitution: promoting peace around the world and strengthening relationships between disputing parties for a better future for all. A core principle of Qatari diplomacy is non-interference in the internal affairs of others. Qatar also firmly rejects any external interference in its own internal affairs. This stance remains a top national priority.

In conclusion, the visit reinforced many facts and affirmed our consistent regional and international positions. Relations between nations are built on shared interests, and Qatar is always among the first to do good and support peace. Some may say that Qatari policy is bold—we respond by pointing to the wisdom of our leadership, which always acts within the bounds of our values, ethics, and national principles. We are transparent and forthright; we hide nothing. Our positions and actions are visible, public, and grounded in respect for the rights of states and peoples.

President Trump’s visit affirmed Qatar’s vital role in extinguishing the flames of conflict both regionally and globally, and in pursuing a policy based on justice. While there may be occasional differences between Qatari and US perspectives on certain issues, these differences remain within acceptable bounds and do not affect the future of bilateral relations. Qatar remains fully committed to building bridges with all nations.
