DOHA: The Qatar Const-ruction Code 2014 will be made mandatory for all private and government buildings in Qatar from May 4, a senior official of the Ministry of Environment has said.
Dr Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, assistant undersecretary for laboratory and standards at the Ministry said that companies that fail to comply with the new construction specifications will face legal action.
Speaking on the sidelines of an environment march on Thursday, Al Kuwari said that some companies have already started implementing the new code. The objective of the new construction specifications is to increase quality of the building, as the country is going ahead with major infrastructure projects, the Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.
The new code will increase quality of buildings by about 40 percent without any additional cost, he added. With adoption of the new specifications, the expected age of the buildings will increase from 75 years to 100 years. The Peninsula
