DOHA: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) celebrated the success of ‘World of Welcome’ (WoW), an employee engagement programme that has seen more than 10,000 staff participating in targeted hospitality training to enhance the experience of patients and visitors.
The celebration at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City’s Club and Hotel, was attended by Dr Hanan Al Kuwari, Managing Director, HMC, who was briefed on the programme by the senior programme team.
The programme was developed in 2011 by the Hospitality Department to help raise awareness among staff about the importance of the right kind of hospital environment in improving healthcare outcomes.
Over the past few years, it has become increasingly popular and by early this year, more than 10,000 staff have completed it.
The programme aims to increase the pace of training over the coming year.
Hamad Al Khalifa, Chief, Health Facilities Development, HMC, said research has shown that how a patient feels impacts directly on how well they heal.
“How we interact with our patients and their families directly affects the experience they have when they come to our hospitals to seek help,” Al Khalifa said.
Participants are encouraged to embrace values and standards incorporated in the WoW training. By raising awareness of the importance of collaboration and teamwork, the programme delivers benefits to staff, patients and their families.
