Two anti-terrorism bills put on hold by Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Two important laws, enacted to stringently deal with terrorists in Pakistan, have not yet been invoked even once, which shows the nonchalance of law enforcement agencies to such legislation.
“Not a single case has been registered under the Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO) despite the lapse of nearly four months of its introduction,”  federal cabinet member was quoted by The News daily as saying.
He said, on condition of anonymity, that some existing courts have also been designated to tackle such cases although no new judicial forum has been established to exclusively take care of them.
The PPO stood enforced when it was promulgated through a presidential ordinance last year. Its life was later enhanced by the National Assembly by 120 days.
While Pakistan has been fighting the anti-terror war for the past twelve years it had no legal instrument to fall back on.
In its absence, the spy agencies were also acting without any legal backing.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       INTERNEWS
