On April 2, Lycee Bonaparte will be holding its Race Against Hunger Campaign on the school grounds. Since 2009, in six editions of this event, nearly 1,100 students have learned about the problem of hunger in the world. These same students have run 5,500 km to collect over €120,000 for the NGO Action Against Hunger.
There are three actions planned for the day: a race against hunger, swim against hunger and a gesture against hunger. Both of these actions are organised in cooperation with the Action Against Hunger organisation. The day’s events will enable us to collect funds and to support the organisation’s humanitarian programmes across the world, with a special focus on Burkina Faso in 2015.
Each student gets parents, friends and neighbours to sponsor him or her for an amount of their choice for every lap that he or she will do around the track. Sponsors thereby commit to making a modest donation multiplied by the number of laps that the student will run on Thursday. On the day of the race, the student will do his best. The race is not a competition; it is mainly about the spirit of humanitarian aid. All of the small sums collected kilometre upon kilometre will add up to a significant amount which will enable the organisation to make substantial actions.
After learning about global hunger, each child will decorate a plate. The kindergarten classes will open the race by running the first lap of honour. Then, they will hold a stand where they will sell their aprons for QR25. All proceeds will go to the NGO Action Against Hunger. The Peninsula
