Madrid: Atletico Madrid announced Monday that they have signed their wonderkid Lucas Hernandez to a new five-year contract.
The center back signed a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2022. His previous contract was going to expire in 2020. The news was a much needed boost for Atletico Madrid fans, as their club faces arch-rivals Real Madrid tomorrow without a number of crucial players.
The versatile stopper has spent his whole senior career with Atletico, having previously played for their B team after progressing from the youth ranks. His brother, who is on loan at Alaves, is also on the clubs books but Atletico might face a battle to keep him as Barcelona are reportedly interested.
Hernandez looks set to start Tuesday's Champions League semi-final, first leg at Real Madrid with Atletico missing Jose Maria Gimenez, Sime Vrsaljko and Juanfran through injury. (QNA)
