Doha: The Youth Company (TYC), Qatar’s social enterprise, in collaboration with W Doha Hotel & Residences, has launched its Ramadan volunteer programme ‘7asanat Olympics’.
Starting yesterday, 7asanat Olympics serves as a platform for volunteering and engaging with the community during the holy month.
The programme, powered by Gulf Warehousing Company and in partnership with 28 Black and Al Abdulla Group Enterprise, aims to distribute 3,000 Iftar boxes at traffic lights before and after Iftar.
The objective is to provide on-road assistance to fasting drivers. The boxes will include dates, water, miswak and Ramadan calendar.
“It is an honour to serve the community during the holy month by supporting the initiative that aims to encourage youth participation in volunteer work. We wish every success for the initiative, volunteers and TYC who will exert every effort to serve the local community,” said Ranjeev Menon, Group CEO, Gulf Warehousing Company.
TYC has also partnered with local organisations and W Doha that are offering volunteering opportunities, which include Supreme Education Council (SEC), Hamad Medical Corporation and Sheikh Eid Charity Association.
The 7asanat Olympics also includes visits to elderly homes, Garangou celebrations at Al Sadd Paediatrics Emergency Centre, SEC, Katara and Qatar Museums at Al Riwaq. Volunteers will also visit residential compounds to collect used clothes and items for charity.
With more than 150 youth volunteers dedicating their time to collecting and distributing essential items in the holy month, TYC plans to provide up to 500 volunteering hours to youth.
To ensure an outstanding community outreach programme, TYC has partnered with iloveqatar.net to co-host and activate volunteering enthusiasm during Ramadan.
“Ramadan is a holy month for the Muslims across the globe where people tend to extend support to the needy in particular and TYC has launched the 7asanat Olympics programme to reach out during the fasting period,” said Aya Abu Issa, CEO, TYC International.
Following collection and distribution of charity items, TYC will launch Iftar street campaign, handling more than 3,000 food items packed into food boxes and distributed across major streets in Doha.
“We are committed to supporting the community; we are focusing on being a caring neighbour through our 7asanat activities,” Aya added.
W Doha’s General Manager, Safak Guvenc, said, “We are honoured to be partnering with TYC during the holy month.
“It is fantastic to be involved in an initiative that serves the local community and encourages youth participation in volunteer work. We wish everyone a blessed month ahead and the best success to the initiative.”
