Doha, Qatar: The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Qatar hosted a grand reception yesterday to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), highlighting the country’s remarkable progress and deepening strategic partnership with Qatar.

The event was attended by the Minister of State H E Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, Director of the Department of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, several ambassadors and other dignitaries.

In his keynote address, Ambassador of China H E Cao Xiaolin welcomed distinguished guests from various sectors, expressing gratitude to those who have supported China’s development and the friendly bilateral relations between the two nations. The event underscored the CPC’s pivotal role in transforming China and its commitment to global peace, stability, and shared prosperity.

“The founding of the CPC in 1921 was a landmark event that fundamentally changed the history of the Chinese nation and profoundly influenced the course of world development,” Ambassador Cao stated. He traced the Party’s journey from leading the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 to pioneering reform and opening-up in 1978, and achieving historic milestones since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.

The ambassador detailed China’s robust economic performance in the new era. Over the past five years, China’s GDP expanded from RMB110 trillion to RMB140 trillion, with an average annual growth rate of 5.4 percent. In 2025, China contributed 35.5 percent of global economic growth, serving as the world’s largest engine of economic development despite global challenges such as energy shortages and supply chain disruptions.

China’s advancements in science and technology also featured prominently. Ambassador Cao noted that innovations in new energy vehicles and artificial intelligence have gained worldwide recognition. China is actively promoting the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization to foster global AI governance and ensure technological benefits reach people worldwide.

Turning to bilateral relations, Ambassador Cao emphasised the strong momentum in China-Qatar ties under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Bilateral trade has more than doubled from $10.6bn in 2014 to $23.8bn in 2025, with China remaining Qatar’s largest trading partner and export destination for six consecutive years.
