MANILA: Through a taxi they allegedly used in robbing a restaurant over the weekend, two cabbies were arrested in Quezon City on Thursday afternoon. Juancho Alba, 44, and Marlon Baloca, 39, were in the cab that was used in the robbery at a branch of the Red Ribbon bakeshop and restaurant when they were arrested, said Superintendent Eleazar Matta, Commander of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 6. Citing text messages on Alba’s mobile phone, the suspect had been told by his cohorts to claim that he was flagged down if he is accosted by policemen, Matta said. QCPD director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano said Alba and Baloca had been tagged in the robbery at the Red Ribbon restaurant along Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay Old Balara on Saturday night, wherein P63,000 had been taken away by five men.
Village chief in drug case
TUGUEGARAO CITY: A village chief in Cagayan is now facing drug charges following his arrest in a buy-bust operation Thursday night, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said. Juvenal Azurin, PDEA-Cagayan Valley director, said Boby Jacobe, 38, chairman of Barangay Dalla in Baggao town, was collared by a joint PDEA-police team after allegedly selling shabu to undercover agents. Also arrested was Jacobe’s alleged cohort, Edgardo Layaoen, 55.
Body recovered from Cebu ferry
MANILA: The body of a woman was recovered by a team of divers from the sunken M/V St Thomas Aquinas in Cebu yesterday morning. Cmdr Armand Balilo, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesman, said the latest recovery was made by a team of PCG, Philippine Navy, Philippine National Police, and civilian technical divers who has been scouring the area where the passenger ship capsized after it collided with the cargo ship M/V Sulpicio Express Siete last August 16 off Talisay City.
