DOHA: Rumailah Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry Consult Liaison and Psychosomatic Fellowship Programme has been invited to join the prestigious American Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine (APM).
Rumailah Hospital’s programme, which was only established in June, is the only one in the Middle East to be affiliated with the APM. It will provide HMC fellows with the opportunity to have an E-Mentor assigned by the APM to assist with education and research.
“This is a very prestigious organisation and membership enables our fellows to access programmes and other educational opportunities,” said Dr Adel Zaraa (pictured), Senior Psychiatry Consultant at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and director of the programme.
The APM is the main scientific organisation related to psychosomatic medicine. It oversees all US programmes and sets the standard for qualifications in psychosomatic medicine.
Psychosomatic medicine, a sub-specialty of psychology, is an interdisciplinary medical field studying the effect of social, psychological, and behavioural factors on bodily processes and quality of life.
