Qatar banking sector’s total assets reach QR1.816 trillion in July

Doha: Qatar Banking sector’s total assets declined by 1.6 percent month-on-month (MoM) (-0.6% in 2022) in July 2022 to QR1.816 trillion. 

Banking sector’s total loan book went down by 0.9% MoM (-0.5% in 2022) and deposits dropped by 1.9% MoM (-1.0% in 2022) in the month of July 2022. The Public sector mainly pushed the credit lower (down 2.2% MoM in July). As deposits fell by 1.9% in July, the LDR went up to 125.5% versus 124.1% in June 2022. 

The overall loan book moved down by 0.9% in July 2022. Domestic Public Sector loans went down by 2.2% MoM (-6.1% in 2022). The government segment (represents ~32% of public sector loans) fell by 10.3% MoM (-21.2% in 2022). However, the government institutions’ segment (represents ~63% of public sector loans) loan book increased by 1.3% MoM (+2.0% in 2022), while the semi-government institutions’ segment gained 9.4% MoM (+13.6% in 2022). 

The total private sector loans edged lower by 0.2% MoM (+2.8% in 2022) in July 2022. General Trade mainly contributed toward the private sector loan decline for the month of July 2022. General Trade (contributes ~21% to private sector loans) declined by 1.2% MoM (+0.6% in 2022). Real Estate segment (contributes ~21% to private sector loans) moved marginally lower by 0.03% MoM (+4.1% in 2022). However, Consumption & Others (contributes ~22% to private sector loans) went up by 0.9% MoM (+4.0% in 2022). Services (contributes ~29% to private sector loans) moved up slightly by 0.01% MoM (+4.7% in 2022) during the month of July 2022. Outside Qatar loans went down by 1.7% MoM (-5.9% in 2022) during the month of July 2022.

Public sector deposits went down by 3.6% MoM (+9.9% in 2022) for the month of July 2022, while Non-resident deposits fell by 4.7% MoM (-24.3% in 2022), resulting in the overall drop in the Qatar Banking Sector deposits. Looking at segment details, the government segment (represents ~30% of public sector deposits) fell by 9.2% MoM (-6.0% in 2022), while the government institutions’ segment (represents ~56% of public sector deposits) declined by 1.2% MoM (+16.0% in 2022). 

The semi-government institutions’ segment moved down by 0.6% MoM (+28.2% in 2022). However, Private sector deposits increased by 0.8% MoM (+7.5% in 2022). On the private sector front, the companies & institutions’ segment went up by 1.6% MoM (+12.9% in 2022), while the consumer segment edged down marginally by 0.05% MoM (+3.0% in 2022).
